Brad’s 21st @ Cushion Lounge

Last Friday night was another great night. Brad had them coming down in droves at Cushion Lounge in Fitzroy St, St Kilda – dressed head to toe in their best gear.

Everyone seemed to get down on the well worn Cushion dance floor, busting a move to some new House, Dubstep and Top40 – but were also well at home when we ripped out some 90s dance classics.

We finished up and as we were leaving it was great to see everyone still having fun when Cushion Lounge opened up to the public later on that night.

Eastern Health 2012

We were extremely happy to be asked back by the good people at Eastern Health to play at their annual ball for the second year running. We had a great time again and were pleased to see everyone packing at the dancefloor to their favourite songs.

Held this year at Red Scooter, the function staff and venue were great. We’re definitely looking forward to their sound upgrades so we can play much louder next time!

Thanks for a great party everyone, maybe we’ll see you again next year!

Hayley’s 21st @ Windy Hill

Great night, great people, awesome music.

Back again at Windy Hill, we played some 80s, loads of 90s and finished off with a little top 40. There was a little something for everyone, and they showed it by getting on the dancefloor.

Winding down, the revellers kicked on and on the way out we had a lot of great compliments for the night. Thanks again guys!

Nikki’s 21st @ Moonee Ponds Bowls Club

Last Saturday saw us playing at yet another new venue, the Moonee Ponds Bowls club – and while it might be seen as a strange place for loud music, the lights over the greens made the views quite fantastic.
It was a night for the 90s and 00s with us playing as many Top40′s we could find between 1990 and 2011. Everyone was having a great time, and danced right until the very end (maybe even a bit after the end – but don’t tell anyone).
Straff had a great time behind the lens for the majority of the night – then got behind the decks to deliver a poppy journey through the 90s, which seemed to bring a smile to everyone – including the birthday girl – which was great!
Now we’re looking forward to taking a couple of weeks off (well, for me anyway) and are getting right back into it at the end of September.

Anna’s 21st

Last Saturday night marked our first gig at Lilly pond in Keilor Rd. The venue was a nice, big hall-like space with plenty of room for the guys to get down and dance on the floor (which they did!). Our set was full of 90s (sometimes not-so) classics, and we played almost every type of music in our collection to keep everyone moving from start to finish.

Straff and I had a great night, with the venue staff being super friendly and helpful throughout the party. Anna’s 21st was a success, and with her friends turning out in droves and joining in all the festivities – it was really a great party to dj at.

The Weekend, Weekend.

Man! What a weekend.

On Friday night we had Colleen’s 21st at Windy Hill, playing pretty much everything that’s new and good (I even got to drop in Skrillex’s remix of Cinema!) in music.

It was a really fun night, and it was great to see everyone having fun and packing out the dance floor. It’s always great to play at Windy Hill, they probably have the best view out of any venue we’ve played at (well maybe Eureka Tower just wins that one).

On Saturday we played at Tom’s 21st which took place at the Laurel Hotel, in Ascot Vale. This old pub turned groovy upstairs function room is another great place to play at. We’ve been here a couple of times and would love to come back and play some more – especially in summer, once they have their new outdoor deck and bar completed. It’s in the early stages of completion, but it already looks like it’s going to be a winner!

Tom’s party was full of great classics and dancing, with Straff at the controls for most of the night. This left me with the rare opportunity to scoop up the camera and take some shots of everyone enjoying themselves.

P.S. I would recommend the Parma and something from the tap for any weary Ascot Vale traveler, it really is a nice little pub.

New CD Decks!

Recently, our good old Denon’s have been getting more and more slow. The hunt for new and more powerful ones bore some great fruit – in the form of Pioneer CDJ 850′s!

These new 2011 models are a joy to work with, and make it even easier to get music off our clients – as they can give us a USB and it will plug straight into the unit, which is extremely handy.

The smile on my face from our gigs could almost be because of these new guys, as they are simply brilliant. I can’t wait till next weekend to get back on them for a 21st birthday function!

These guys may make playing easier, but they more than anything make the music sound better.

Trash Thursdays

I have to say, it’s been a really long week! I’m looking forward to the weekend like you wouldn’t believe! A couple of birthdays, and a function at The Leveson should be a great way to spend the 2 and a half days of freedom.

Top 40 Trash: Not exactly trash, this song just has something about it that makes me want to dance. It’s got crazyily catchy lyrics, and a great beat. I haven’t been the biggest fan of the Potbelleez, until this one came along.

Funky Trash: As soon as this song comes on, you can’t help but bop a little. Yes, I said bop.

Electro Trash: This is not really that fresh, but it takes the new Justice song – and makes it completely different. Think when Boyz Noize remixed them a couple years back.

The Inaugural ‘Trash Thursdays’ Post

So from now on, every Thursday night I’m going to resolve to post some Trashy songs. One will be from the past and the other two will be from the present. I’m going to try my best to make you cringe, smile and loose your belongings every Thursday night.

1.Old Trash: This song has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. It’s not exactly floor-filler material, but it’s still something you’ll find me bobbing my head to.

2. New Trash: Ok, so it’s a soft target. But this song IS catchy, and tomorrow is Friday – so I think it’s relevant.

3. Trashy: So here’s the part where I post some dance. Each Thursday, I’m going to try and deliver either some Trashy Dubstep, or some Trashy Electro. So here’s the first one:

8tracks and why it’s so good

I may be late to this craze, but lately I have not been able to get away from 8tracks.com. I’m one of these people that’s crazy about finding new music, because I think there’s nothing worse than being on a train and listening to a song you’ve heard a billion times before.

If you haven’t heard about it, it’s basically internet radio, but with a twist.

It’s based around people submitting their own mixes, or “8tracks.” Then, based on what you feel like, you can pick and choose which genre or artist you want to listen to. This is made almost too easy by the smart search and tag filters. It also includes the ability to follow people who’s mixes you like, providing you with a great little feed of music that you’re in to.

So here’s one that I’ve just found while writing this post. Dubstep – but not quite as you know it.
